Road Safety Testing Vehicle

Unique IHBI research carried out under real driving conditions is investigating the relationship between vision and driving performance, with a particular focus on the elderly, who comprise the fastest growing segment of the driving population.

IHBI researchers are looking at how vision and vision impairment (resulting from cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration and Parkinson’s disease) affect driving under closed and open road conditions.

Vision specialists at IHBI are working on projects funded by the Australian Research Council in collaboration with researchers from across the USA to examine how older drivers react to road and driving conditions.

This research is part of the Vision Improvement Domain

myopia, injury, cateracts, glaucoma, misjudgement, accidents...

IHBI researchers are dedicated to improving your view of the world. We are leading the way in vision improvement research, focussing on improving eye health and health services and preventing eye injury.

Specialist IHBI researchers are working on advanced vision correction through innovative vision and optical performance measures and advanced lens designs.

Researchers are also using electrophysiology approaches for evaluating and managing agerelated macular degeneration, examining retinal image formation and assessing responses in humans using a variety of techniques with a view to preventing myopia (short-sightedness).

Ophthalmic devices such as software for analysis of ocular aberrations and holographic devices for vision assessment are also under development.

At IHBI, we can see the possibilities and we’d like to share that vision with you.
