QUT brings into IHBI a history of successful commercialisation endeavours, and a range of research activities in various stages towards commercial development, including start-up ventures in molecular farming and tissue engineering. QUT contact lens research, for example, has received more than $2 million in external commercial funding for its work, and represents an outstanding opportunity for commercial development and the establishment of new industries in Queensland.
Moving forward, commercialisation of IHBI research is managed by the technology commercialisation team at bluebox. Accordingly, bluebox will assist the Institute to develop systems, knowledge, tests, vaccines, and medical, ophthalmic and rehabilitation devices through to commercial release, earning revenue from research and development collaborations, licensing agreements, and from the sale of equity in start-up companies.
QUT has an outstanding record in capturing the value of its biomedical research and fostering the formation and incubation of start-up companies in Queensland. bluebox is responsible for the creation and management of new biotech companies from IHBI research via its commercialisation process.
