ihbi's new $70 million, state-of-the-art research facility at the Kelvin Grove Urban Village in Brisbane was opened by Queensland Premier Peter Beattie MP on Tuesday 24th October 2006.
The ihbi building is an outstanding architectural accomplishment. From the giant public sculptures on the outside, to the environmentally friendly air conditioning units on the inside, the building is one of the most impressive research facilities in Australia today. The seven floors of state of the art equipment will house almost 400 staff.
The Building and IHBI Philosophy
IHBI’s vision is to create an open, collaborative environment fostering excellence in biomedical and health innovation. By promoting interdisciplinary research, IHBI will capture the unique opportunities that arise from teams working at the interfaces between traditional research fields.
The IHBI headquarters was built to reflect and bring to life this philosophy of collaboration in a practical way. The open plan nature of the building, with its numerous formal and informal spaces for members to congregate and meet, is designed to enhance communication, collaboration and innovation.
The laboratories and work areas are constructed to the highest standards and reflect IHBI’s specific research needs to encourage excellence in research and innovation.
